Meet Doula Dawn

Doula DawnMy journey as a doula began in 2005 when a close friend invited me to support her during the birth of her son.  I was in awe of birth and captivated by the experience!

Not long after, I became pregnant. With the loving support of my husband and sister-in-law, I birthed our son Bryce into the world!  I realized the importance of consistent, compassionate care and felt empowered to help other women experience the beauty of birth.

We were also blessed with a daughter, Ella,  in 2008.  After a full pregnancy of being in breech position, I birthed her through Caesarean section.  I became passionate about supporting women through the emotional and physical challenges of birth.

Since then, I have helped women and their partners to have meaningful and positive birth experiences.  I have been a doula for births in home and hospital and have supported clients through various birth preferences.

I am a Certified Birth Doula (completed August 2012) through DONA International (Doulas Of North America), an internationally recognized organization that provides ongoing training, updated information, and resources to doulas around the world.

I am an active member of the Association of Ontario Doulas (AOD), a not-for-profit association of Doula professionals. I am the Regional Representative for AOD during 2014-2016 for the Wellington-Waterloo-Dufferin-Guelph Region.  I am also a member of the Guelph Community Breastfeeding Collaborative and the Guelph Doula Network.

In my spare time I enjoy music, reading, and tea dates.  I love spending time with my husband, Eric, and my children – we like walks in the woods, movie nights, and playing boardgames.

I believe that…

Birth is a process that is significant and impacts us deeply.

Parents deserve to make informed choices throughout their pregnancy, labour, and birth.  Parents deserve to be supported, cared for, and respected in their choices.
